An innovative provider of environmental safety products
for the construction and demolition industries.
Leading
the industry to customer-centric innovation. Founded in 2006 and
based in New York City, ESS designs and produces innovative solutions for the
Construction and Demolition trades. With the introduction of their new
Enviroboot EB-1 demolition of concrete and similar materials can be performed in
a safer and more economical manner.
The Challenge When Thoroughspect a company
owned by Brian Sweig was contracted to waterproof a residential basement, faced
many obstacles on the worksite . The largest of which was the dispersal of
Silica dust created by the jack hammering effect as well as other airborne
contaminates. To add to the problems that a normal job such as this would have,
the customers son has asthma and could not be exposed to airborne contaminates.
There were no commercially available solutions to be found.
The Solution! While in a home-improvement
store buying an industrial wet/dry vacuum, Paul suddenly envisioned how that
vacuum might be connected to the jackhammer using some type of boot
accessory to virtually eliminate the dust/contaminant problem. He envisioned a
sleeve-like accessory that would be pulled over the chisel end of the jackhammer
and clamped at the top to create a dust-proof seal. The Y-shaped accessory would
also include a smaller arm, going off to one side, which would be clamped to the
flexible hose from a vacuum
Development of the EB-1 Paul and Brian
experimented with several approaches to creating a prototype accessory. When
they tried out the prototype while waterproofing the basement of the family with
the asthmatic child, dust-suppression was so effective that the youngster did
not have to leave home during construction.
With the duct-taped prototype so successful, Brian saw a
broader future for the product in the marketplace. It could protect workers and
clients from lung disease, safeguard contractors bottom lines from costly
preparation and cleanup work, keep customers happy, and help contractors meet
regulations limiting workers exposure to silica dust.
Enter Alan Brian brought the concept and
makeshift prototype to entrepreneur Alan Diamond, a regular customer who had
become a friend. Having experienced the silica-dust problem firsthand, Alan
instantly recognized the proposed products value proposition from the homeowner
perspective. Having consistently relied on Brians expertise for services to his
residence and other properties, he also quickly understood the value from the
industry standpoint. So, he agreed to finance the venture and become the new
companys president.
